A Lens a Day Keeps the Redness Away

Have you ever left your soft contact lenses in for more time than recommended? It's a fact of life that so many things are at their best when they haven't been used too much. It's helpful to know that the same principle is also applicable to your contacts. There are so many reasons why you shouldn't keep your contacts in your eyes longer than you're supposed to. Of course, it might be tempting to wear them just one more time, if you want to help your eyes stay healthy, don't ignore the replacement schedule given to you by your optometrist. This means that if you've been told to change pairs monthly, then change them every month, because they can't withstand extended wear.

You might think, is it so bad to get just a couple additional days out of them? To understand this idea, let's take a look at protein - and we don't mean the kind you eat, but the natural protein that is a main component of the tears and eye fluids that gradually accumulates on the surface of your lenses which forms a light haze. Unclear vision is just the beginning.

After some time, these proteins evolve and trick your immune system into thinking the formation is something foreign, and this can lead to eye irritation, itching and redness. And this means that your eyesight suffers. External particles like pollen or dust can also accumulate on the lens, which also makes eyesight blurry. Even if you take the best possible care of your contacts, eventually they stop being as clear and smooth, just due to regular deterioration.

It's best to keep to the schedule your optometrist has instructed you to. When you dispose of and replace your lenses on time, you'll never detect the difference that becomes quickly apparent when you overwear them.
